Emergency electrician
Power off, a safety switch that won't reset, or a power point that's sparking? Call Tony on 0412 049 022. He answers his own phone.
AGT Power is Tony Galea, a licensed emergency electrician based in Surry Hills. He repairs electrical faults in homes, rental properties and strata buildings across Sydney's Inner City, Eastern Suburbs and Lower North Shore. Call, tell him what's happened and where, and he'll tell you on the call whether he can get to it. An emergency call-out is $280 + GST, then $100 an hour + GST.

What to do right now
Keep everyone safe first, then call. These steps take a minute and keep a fault from getting worse.
Fire, smoke or someone hurt
Get everyone out and call 000 first.
Don't touch anything damaged
Stay clear of sparking, scorched or wet fittings and any exposed wires.
Switch off at the switchboard
If you can reach it without touching anything damaged, turn off the affected circuit or the main switch.
Don't keep resetting
A safety switch that trips again straight away is warning you. Leave it off.
Check next door
If the neighbours have lost power too, it's likely a network outage. Report it to Ausgrid.

Questions people ask
An emergency call-out is $280 + GST, which covers getting to you. From the moment Tony arrives, it's $100 an hour + GST, the same hourly rate as any other job. Call 0412 049 022, describe what has happened and where, and Tony will tell you on the call whether he can get to it.
Anything that could hurt someone or damage the property. That includes a burning smell or smoke from a switchboard or power point, sparking, exposed or wet wiring, a safety switch that won't reset, or no power when the neighbours have theirs. If there's fire or someone is hurt, call 000 first.
Tony will tell you on the call. Ring 0412 049 022 and describe what has happened and where the property is. Tony answers his own phone, so you're talking to the electrician who would do the repair, and you'll know straight away whether he can get to it.
Tony makes the fault safe first. If the repair can be done then, he tells you what it involves and what it will cost before he starts. If it needs parts or more time, he explains what's needed and arranges to come back and finish it.
For a home, ideally yes. Tony texts you an invoice or payment link, and you can pay by card, online or bank transfer. For strata, real estate and commercial jobs, he invoices.
First check whether the neighbours have power. If they don't, it's likely a network outage, so report it to Ausgrid. If it's only your property, look at the switchboard for a tripped switch and reset it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call Tony on 0412 049 022.
Not if the spark was big, left a scorch mark, or came with a burning smell or buzzing. Stop using it, switch that circuit off at the switchboard if you can do so safely, and call Tony on 0412 049 022. A tiny spark when you plug something in can be normal, but get it checked if it keeps happening.
